Juan L. Silva is a Professor, Researcher and Extension Specialist at Mississippi State University. He holds BS and MS in Chemical Engineering and a PhD. in Food Science and Technology. He served on IFT’s Board of Directors and now serves on the FSPCA Executive Advisory Board.

His emphasis is to create informed/trained instructors in FSMA, HACCP programs and other areas, to replicate efforts to users/stakeholders through these trainers/Lead Instructors. He started international outreach and training (especially train-the trainer) in 1995, with HACCP systems. In 2005 he started working on train the trainer courses in Good Ag and Aquaculture Practices for Latin America and other parts of the world (was part of about 20 teams with over 1000 participants). He also was part of five teams conducting Seafood HACCP/Good Aquaculture Practices train the trainer courses in the US, Latin America, and Asia. He has led/co-led many train the trainer PSA courses in the Produce Safety Rule. In addition, he is a trainer in PC Human Foods, Animal Foods and FSVP, and part of the Food Traceability Curriculum development team. He has conducted many LI courses in the USA, Latin America, SE Asia, Africa and virtually to LI in many parts of the world. Other national/international efforts have been in educating foreign suppliers and exporters on FSVP programs, other regulatory requirements, Better Process Control Schools (at least one annually). He is a Process Authority and a consultant in food processing and safety for the food and feed industries. .
