The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is issuing a public health alert due to concerns that illness caused by strains of Salmonella Heidelberg are associated with raw chicken products produced by Foster Farms at three facilities in California.
It’s Day 4 of the partial shutdown of the U.S. government, which resulted from Congress’ failure to enact the annual appropriations needed to keep the government in business. In an Oct. 2 blog post, LGMA CEO Scott Horsfall assured the public that "government food safety audits on leafy greens farms continue uninterrupted," noting that LGMA auditors are not direct employees of the federal government.
