The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) recently published Our Food 2022, its annual report of food standards across the nation, which was conducted in collaboration with Food Standards Scotland (FSS). Although the UK faced significant challenges that affected the food system in 2022, FSA reported that that there has not been any significant change in food safety and authenticity standards, except for a trend in food allergen labeling requirements.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the withdrawal of the 2005 proposed rule, titled, Food Standards; General Principles and Food Standards Modernization, which was published jointly with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to establish a set of general principles for FDA and FSIS to use when considering whether to establish, revise, or eliminate a food standard.
The FDA is extending for 90 days the comment period on a 2005 proposed rule to establish a set of general principles for the agency to use when considering whether to establish, revise or eliminate a food standard of identity.
