The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized meat from gene-edited pigs, produced by researchers at Washington State University (WSU), for human consumption. The gene-editing tool CRISPR is being used to modify genetic traits of the line of pigs. 

A toxin-carrying virus is involved in the emergence of a new strain of Salmonella in pigs.

Banyueten, a Chinese magazine, recently reported that Chinese authorities are investigating multiple dead pigs that have been found along a section of the Yellow River.
