Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has opened a call for comment on revised egg food safety and primary production requirements in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.
Proposed amendments to the Code are intended to strengthen egg and egg product safety in Australia through measures including environmental monitoring, improved traceability, and temperature control during storage and transport. The proposed revisions are the result of a review that was prompted by an egg-related Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that caused 245 illnesses in 2018–2019.
Stakeholders can review the proposed amendments and submit comments through FSANZ’s consultation hub. Comments must be submitted by May 12, 2025.
