According to the Swedish Food Agency’s (Livsmedelsverket’s) latest data, the results of pesticide residue controls conducted in 2022–2023 show that very few sampled foods contain pesticides exceeding maximum residue limits (MRLs). No domestic foods contained residues at levels that violated MRLs.
In total, 491 samples across six food categories were tested in 2022–2023. More than half of the samples (58 percent) contained no detectable levels of pesticides. Only 19 samples (3.9 percent) contained pesticides exceeding MRLs, most of which were imported from non-EU countries.
The testing data was collected as part of the Swedish Food Agency’s routine monitoring activities. Food samples are collected randomly. Sweden adheres to MRLs set by the EU, and reports the results of its monitoring activities to the EU.
