Clear Labs has announced the release of their comprehensive Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) test, based on their proprietary next generation sequencing (NGS) platform. The unveiling of this product is important now because, as food retailers and manufacturers begin to roll out proactive food safety programs to comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act, they’ll need a way to affordably monitor for, prevent, detect, and respond to outbreaks.
WGS has been the gold standard for pathogen strain detection, but the technology being used today is siloed within regulatory bodies like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and it's sorely outdated. The test Clear Labs has unveiled is based on the most modern NGS technologies being used in personalized medicine and human disease exploration. It represents a quantum leap for the food industry, specifically food safety programs.
The test allows customers to determine how different pathogen strains are evolutionarily related, what regions they come from, and what food groups they’re associated with. Paired with their proprietary analytics pipeline, Clear Labs' customers uncover meaningful correlations, such as matching specific pathogen strains to specific food ingredients.
