The Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) has announced that the Asian Seafood Improvement Collaborative (ASIC) has joined GSSI as an Affiliated Partner.
ASIC encourages seafood supply chain stakeholders from Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam to develop goals and enact standards and protocols to advance sustainability initiatives that support ocean health and global food security. To help with this, ASIC has created a platform where Asian seafood industry stakeholders can work together on issues of sustainability and improvements. In addition, it has developed a framework where strategies can become action throughout the industry supply chain. These developments provide incentives to producers and buyers on local, regional, and international levels.
“Our partnership with GSSI and participation in the Seafood Map project strategically aligns with our mission to foster improvements and strengthen our global positioning in shaping a sustainable seafood supply chain. Through this multi-stakeholder platform, ASIC can accelerate place-based initiatives, by bringing more recognition of our improvement tools that support the improvement of non-certified small-scale seafood producers in Southeast Asia,” said Rosanna Contreras, ASIC chair.
