The food industry is in need of a solution for recycled plastics packaging that meet strict hygiene and performance requirements. Sealed Air, ExxonMobil, and Ahold Delhaize USA have joined forces to innovate recycling technology in a way that will recover essential packaging materials and maintain a circular plastics economy. The partnership aims to increase the use of recycled content by creating flexible plastics that are designed to be collected, recycled, and repurposed into new food packaging that does not compromise on food safety or quality. The project will also increase the number of times essential plastics can be recycled, which will keep plastics out of landfills.

Sealed Air, an automated packaging solutions provider, will make use of ExxonMobil’s resources and Ahold Delhaize’s retail network to show the food industry how high-performance packaging materials can be designed to be remade, and that it is possible to protect perishable foods while creating a low-carbon, circular economy. The business relationship will also exemplify the value chain collaborations needed to provide hygienic, quality, and sustainable food packaging solutions.
