The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recently hosted a webinar to provide an update on its Auditor Training and Development project. GFSI also provided clarity on questions that were raised during the conversation with a follow up Q&A document.
As part of the GFSI Race to the Top Initiative and following extensive stakeholder consultations, GFSI is piloting a new approach to the verification and assurance of food safety auditor competence and continuing professional development. Central to the approach is the establishment of a new set of GFSI benchmarking requirements that are designed to recognize the organizations responsible for validating common competencies in a food safety auditor, known as Professional Recognition Bodies, in an effort to eliminate repetitive validations of common competencies and deliver independent assessments of auditor competence. The project is currently undergoing a pilot phase.
