A Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak linked to cucumbers has caused 68 illnesses and 18 hospitalizations in 19 states.

Epidemiologic and traceback data point to cucumbers grown by Agrotato S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico and distributed by SunFed Produce LLC as the vehicle of illness. The implicated cucumbers were sold between October 12, 2024 and November 26, 2024. SunFed Produce has initiated a recall.

Illnesses have been reported in Alaska, California, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The greatest number of illnesses (16) has been seen in Montana.

Of the 33 people interviewed, 27 (82 percent) reported eating cucumbers.


Update, December 19, 2024: A total of 100 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from 23 states. Of the 90 people for whom information is available, 25 have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. Of the 67 people interviewed, 54 (81 percent) reported eating or probably eating cucumbers.


Update, January 8, 2025: A total of 113 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella were reported from 23 states. Of the 99 people for whom information was available, 28 were hospitalized. No deaths were reported. Of the 69 people interviewed, 56 reported eating or likely eating cucumbers. CDC has declared the outbreak over.
