GHSE, LLC, a Green Cove Springs, Florida establishment, is recalling approximately 738 pounds of ready-to-eat salad with meat products that contain a corn ingredient that may be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
Gravel Ridge Farms has recalled its Cage Free Large Eggs due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The recall was initiated due to reported illnesses confirmed at locations using the eggs.
After a series of salmonellosis outbreaks linked to ground beef that occurred annually from 2011 to 2013, FSIS released a two-year Salmonella action plan that contained 10 objectives or activities, including: "Explore the contribution of lymph nodes to Salmonella contamination" and "Pre-harvest related activities."
The CDC says 60 people in five Midwestern states have become ill as a result of the outbreak, and among 47 people with information available, thirty-one cases (66 percent) have been hospitalized.
The findings are of particular interest to meat and poultry processors looking to minimize the use of chemicals in their production processes.
