SÜDPACK recently introduced its new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) floatable lidding films. The innovation offers a sustainable alternative for the safe packaging of sliced meat, ham, and cheese in peelable, thermoformed, and modified atmosphere packagings.
Used on mono-amorphous PET (APET) trays, the low-density, sealable top webs can be separated during recycling from the APET bottom webs, producing cleanly recycled materials for infeed into different material flows. The PET floatable lidding films provide equal performance and processing reliability to conventional lidding films.
The product family includes a peelable version and a top web featuring Multipeel® for easy opening and reclosing. The extra convenience of secure closing and complete protection provides a long shelf life for packaged food. Multipeel PET floatable helps cut the carbon footprint of products, in that it is recyclable and facilitates longer food freshness.
Peel PET floatable’s extra-thin lidding film, measuring 45 micrometers (µm), securely seals against PET trays, even when contaminated with fats. It peels easily off the tray and does not tear or roll. The high oxygen barrier also ensures optimal product protection. Additionally, antifog properties keep the lidding film clear, ensuring an attractive presentation at retail.
Another advantage of Peel PET floatable is that it does not require expensive adjustments to production machines. The high-performance films can be optimally processed just like conventional lidding films on thermoforming packaging machines and tray sealers. Excellent sealing properties and a large processing window guarantee high versatility, as well as maximum packaging and process reliability.
SÜDPACK customers can combine the new Peel or Multipeel PET floatable solutions with mono-APET trays and declare their packaging concept recyclable. High separability and low weight share of the top web in the overall packaging deliver a recyclability of over 80 percent.
