The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) will hold two virtual public meetings in December on its proposed Salmonella Framework for Raw Poultry Products. Published in July 2024, the proposed regulatory framework for Salmonella in raw poultry products would set an enforceable final product standard for the pathogen at certain levels, at which point it is determined to be an “adulterant,” focusing on five serotypes of public health significance. The proposed framework would also require Salmonella testing and monitoring in facilities.
The upcoming meetings regarding the Salmonella framework will take place on December 3 and December 5, 2024, from 1:00–4:00 P.M. ET on both dates.
- The December 3 meeting will focus on final product standards. Registration is available here.
- The December 5 session will focus on statistical process control monitoring methods and related topics. Registration is available here.
Each session will provide an opportunity for a small group of varied stakeholders to present their views and engage in discussion regarding the proposed Salmonella Framework. FSIS will provide time for stakeholders from the larger group to ask questions.
The comment period for the proposed Salmonella Framework is open until January 17, 2025.
